Medicinal Cannabis

Medicinal cannabis is one of the most exciting medical treatments of our time.

At Sunflower we specialise in medicinal cannabis therapy for Depression, Anxiety, and Insomnia.

Dr Zaina is an authorised medicinal cannabis prescriber. It takes experience and training to become an authorised prescriber in Australia. The benefit to patients of seeing an Authorised prescriber is same-day access to medication.

Yes. You can provide your GP with the SAS B approval forms that we obtain for you, and they will be able to provide you with repeat prescriptions. Your GP is also able to submit the application for you if they are comfortable doing so.

Medicinal cannabis products are not registered with the TGA (therapeutic Goods Association) and so cannot be accessed simply by a standard prescription. They also cannot be ordered by a pharmacist without the appropriate documentation. This documentation must be completed by a doctor; an approval via the Special Access Scheme. It involves writing to the TGA about your condition, what you have tried, why conventional treatments are not appropriate, and evidence that medicinal cannabis has some research indicating that it may be applied usefully in your condition. The doctor needs to submit a new application for each new product the patient requires. Once approval is received for a patient, the forms are sent to a pharmacy that is authorized to hold medicinal cannabis products. The pharmacy will order your product and you can collect it with a valid script.

Once granted, an approval may remain valid for up to 24 months before a new application needs to be submitted.
